consistency

how do we exist in this
tension?
you, me, and a third
force in motion
all pull on this rope
to guide it where we want to go
and to keep from snapping it
trembles

how do we exist in this
tension?
kill them
with kindness
punch a nazi
curse your god
forgive the unforgivable

close to snapping
i shake, too

i wish the laws of the natural world
would answer when i ask
for clarity when i ask
why
but you know laws
they aren’t omniscient
and though they aren’t always generous either
there’s always the option
of proving them wrong

maybe that’s where we see that
things just are
a fine balance of black and white and gray and gray and gray

a whole enigma of its own
the paradox can be magnanimous
maybe that’s all the truth
we deserve
